One slender hope remains: acquiring resources from offworld. The only viable location: Mars. The Mars Project was your brainchild. It is a one-way trip, and the extraction effort has no margin for error.

And then it all goes wrong.

A shipboard disaster jettisons your cryopod and you are presumed lost. Awakening years later on the Martian surface you find your project team has carried on without you, as best they could. On Earth humanity is now hanging on by its cuticles, huddled in the dwindling handful of population centers that remain.

You have been asleep for too long and so much has changed. A slip of 0.1% productivity could be a death blow to millions - or our entire species. You can fix this, there is still time, but it is no longer your project. Mars is a strange land and you are a stranger in it. Utilizing your training, skills and hypercompetence you will get to know this ragtag Martian society, earn their trust, and repair the effort to save humanity. In doing so you will need to confront hard truths about yourself, truths that have helped you to become the person you are, but may be a liability on this strange world that wants you dead, among people who owe you nothing.
