白鸟是一款即时制角色扮演游戏，玩家将跟随剧情控制多名角色不断深入故事。
因为制作游戏的初衷便是讲述故事，所以一切设计都会向剧情倾斜。战斗和机关谜题都采用了一种相对简单，但又能衔接剧情的形式，玩儿法相对来说也比较休闲。

故事背景
白鸟的故事发生在一个虚构世界的岛屿，岛屿上居民以岛为天下，称中部地区为中州。游戏开始的时间点记为“孤明山历三百三十七年”，孤明山是什么？这要从四百年前讲起。
四百年前，中州上遍布各种教派，其中以玄云、南山、太白、归雁、藏虎、水月六大门派最为兴旺，后来因为异族入侵，六大门派彼此损耗，渐渐失去了霸主地位。
相互纠葛几十年后，异族终于被赶出中州。
又过了许多年，孤明山周师祖在兔耳山建立门派“孤明”，并以孤明山建派之年为纪元开始，称“孤明山历”。
孤明山弟子修炼不老仙术，逐渐成为中州最为强大的门派，天下修炼习武之人均向往拜入孤明山门下……
故事伊始已是孤明山建派三百多年后，新入门三年不到的小弟子才刚刚开始习惯漫漫修行。山上弟子认真修行，山下居民热闹生活，一切都如同三百年来一样安静平和。然而静水之下遍布暗流，水平之上也再难安然无恙……
